Inspired by this gorgeous aspen grove, I wanted to capture the magical morning light casting its warm glow on the forest. Peaceful and mysterious, the sun’s rays peek through the knotted trunks causing the landscape to dance with light and awaken with autumn’s kaleidoscope of colors. Loaded with texture and layers and layers of paint, the forest shimmers with hope and discovery for the new day.

Enjoying the melodic tinkling of the aspen leaves rustling in the breeze, the trickling sounds of the babbling brook at our side, and the beauty of fall ablaze with color, I felt invigorated as I began painting this aspen forest. The setting was so peaceful and rejuvenating that I wanted to communicate that joyful feeling of discovery. Filling the canvas with energetic staccato strokes and bold colors, in addition to gently arching the tree trunks reaching towards the sky, add to that uplifting feeling. And then just a sliver of the trail cutting through the forest, suggests the excitement of the journey that is to come.

I loved this brilliant aspen forest with its bright white aspen trunks slicing through all of the vibrant red and yellow foliage. The patterns of the trees created a sort of rhythm and I focused on the placement of the ivory sentinels, the diagonal purple shadows that they cast and the rustling of the leaves to add to that musical feeling. I hope you, too, can sense the energy and joy of being surrounded by nature as autumn is in full swing.

Just sold! Since the leaves are just barely turning and we are in Acadia National Park, after all, I just had to paint this gorgeous ocean view that screams we are in Maine! Fascinating rock cliffs surrounded by pine trees, an endless expanding horizon, and listening to the crashing waves as they approach the shore, are just what the doctor ordered. In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and heavens above. Choosing uplifting autumn tones contrasted against a turquoise blue sky, gentle clouds drift by as the sun peeks through casting its magical light on everything it touches and lifting your spirits. Arranging the trees in a circular pattern gives you a sense of laying on the ground, surrounded by the forest and directs your eye to hope’s focal point. Utilizing thick, energetic paint strokes adds to that joyful, playful feeling of promise and discovery.
