New “Moving Expectations” Contemporary Floral Painting by Niki Gulley

“Moving Expectations” ©2021 Niki Gulley
20″ x 30″ Textured Mixed Media on Canvas

Taking the ideas that I started in this new series from inside my studio to outside in my garden, my goal was to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light. My irises this year were so beautiful and prolific and added so much joy after the year that we had, that I felt compelled to capture their symbols of optimism.

Painting the yellow blossoms larger than life add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, ribbons of brightly colored blooms dance across the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. With room to roam, I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.

New Palette Knife Ocean Painting by Niki Gulley

“Atlantic Coastline II” ©2020 Niki Gulley
12″ x 9″ textured oil painting on canvas panel

I wanted this painting to be about the power of the ocean to lift your spirits. Painting this piece on location, as the sun rose, I wanted to capture the gorgeous rock formations and the beautiful colors in the ocean. Whenever I visit the coastline I always feel rejuvenated, and I hope I’ve translated that onto the canvas for you to experience it, too.

New “Bougainvillea Archway” by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Bougainvillea Archway” ©2021 Niki Gulley

12″ x 16″ textured oil painting on canvas panel

Framed in 3” espresso frame. • $950 framed / $800 unframed

Painted on location in Spain, these Bougainvillea vines were so gorgeous and prolific that I just had to paint them. Gently reaching across and cascading over the trellis and wrapping themselves around white washed columns, these magenta beauties formed the perfect welcoming entrance framing the intricate turquoise doorway. Purple shadows from plumbago plantings lead you along the cobbled path, inviting you to step inside and enjoy the view.

Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley Painting Roses in Her Garden

20″ x 30″ Textured Mixed Media on Canvas • ©2021 Niki Gulley

As my garden kept evolving this spring, I was treated every day to a new blossoming surprise! After my irises were complete, I was greeted by the most gorgeous roses I’ve seen since I planted them 5 years ago. So, of course I had to go out and capture those beauties before they disappeared.

Wanting to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light, I painted the blooms large to add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, multi-colored roses dance across the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.

New Contemporary Textured Purple Irises Painting by Niki Gulley

20″ x 30″ Textured Mixed Media on Canvas • ©2021 Niki Gulley

Here you can see the next step in my painting process. I’ve started adding thick layers of paint to bring my purple irises to life. My garden was so beautiful and prolific this year that I felt compelled to capture that beauty on canvas. Taking the ideas that I started in this new series from inside my studio to outside in my backyard, I wanted to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light.

Painting the blossoms larger than life add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, ribbons of brightly colored blooms dance across the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. With room to roam, I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.

Painting Irises in the Garden by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

20″ x 30″ Textured Mixed Media on Canvas ©2021 Niki Gulley

My irises this year were so beautiful and prolific and added so much joy after the year that we had, that I felt compelled to capture that feeling on canvas. Taking the ideas that I started in this new series from inside my studio to outside in my garden, my goal was to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light.

Here you can see the first step in my painting process, my charcoal sketch of the irises showing them larger than life. Next I will begin to add layers and layers of paint to build up texture and color so that the cheerful blooms come to life and dance across the canvas.

“Spring Forward” ©2021 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 24″ x 12″ textured mixed media painting on canvas

Just sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! On our drive through the Hill Country recently, I was drawn to this one lone tree rising above the horizon.  Waves of bluebonnets lead your eye into the distance towards that late light illuminating the wildflower filled hill and oak tree. Adding pops of color where the rainbow of wildflowers danced in between the blue also keeps your focus moving from foreground to background. I hope you can feel the joy and energy of springtime in Texas!
