New “Peaceful Living” Series by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

Peaceful Living ©2018 Niki Gulley
SOLD • textured oil paint on canvas • 16″ x 20″

Just Sold! My husband and I were on a road trip when we came across a couple of these white house glowing on the horizon. Set amongst vibrant green gently rolling hills with the intense blue ocean in the distance, something beckoned us to stop. Maybe it was the quiet beauty of the scene, or the nostalgic tug at a simpler life, but we were both moved to capture the moment. To convey that feeling of a less congested life, I accentuarted the the basic shapes of the homes against the simple repetive curves of the hills. Meanwhile a few wispy clouds drift by adding to the tranquility of the moment. I hope you are transported to this memory of our past, before modern life got so complicated.

“Visions of Azaleas” Palette Knife Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

“Visions of Azaleas” ©2018 Niki Gulley
24″ x 12″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Painted on location, I set up my easel in front of these prolific azalea bushes along Turtle Creek near my home. The vibrant pinks and fuchsia were so full of life set against the cool green leaves, that I wanted to capture not only that vivid spring color but also the elegant sycamore tree in the distance with its speckled white bark.  Contrasting the height of the vertical tree against the horizontal blooms, I chose this vertical panoramic canvas, and repeating shapes throughout creates a harmony to the overall scene. Painted with palette knife and lots of texture, I hope you can feel the beauty and energy of a perfect spring day.

“Visions of Azaleas” along with several of my contemporary impressionistic landscape paintings are available through Seaside Gallery in Pismo Beach, CA. To contact them about this painting, please follow the link below.

“Flowing into Spring” Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Flowing into Spring” ©2018 Niki Gulley
24″ x 12″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

I painted this scene from the Dallas Arboretum on location a few weeks ago when the weather was beautiful and the spring buds were in full bloom. I love tulips being one of the first flowers to announce that winter has officially ended, so I focused on these colorful red and white striped ones in the foreground, which contrast so well against the complimentary green leaves and grasses. I also liked how their height leads you back into the distant flower beds and onto the Degolyer house in the background, so I chose this vertical panorama format to accentuate that feeling. Loaded with thick oil paint, texture and movement, I hope you can feel the joy that spring is in the air!“Flowing into Spring” along with several of my contemporary impressionistic landscape paintings are available through Seaside Gallery in Pismo Beach, CA. “April’s Bounty” Palette Knife Oil Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“April’s Bounty”  ©2016 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 24″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Just Sold! Inspired by a trip to the hill country, I wanted you to feel the warmth and beauty on this perfect spring day. Painted with thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve extreme texture, the resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color, movement and energy. Using thick oil paint and palette knives, I arranged the bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush diagnonally to create energy and movement, keeping your eye traveling from blossom to blossom. Choosing soft golds and violets for the background creates contrast against the foreground grasses and adds a warmth to the overall scene so that you feel the joy and serenity of being immersed in the Texas hill country.

For details on April’s Bounty and more of my Texas landscape paintings, please see my new works at the Good Art Company Gallery, goodartcompany.com/gac/. I am honored to be one of their featured artists this month, and I hope you can visit with me at the artist reception tonight, March 4th.

New “Flowing into Spring” Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

24″ x 12″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas, Dallas Arboretum

I painted this scene from the Dallas Arboretum on location a few weeks ago when the weather was beautiful and the spring buds were in full bloom. I was attracted to this Azalea trail with the vivid fuchsia blossoms tucked away in this cool, shady, peaceful garden. Choosing a vertical panoramic format leads your eye from the azaleas to wander up the trail towards the light and the beautiful dogwood tree in the distance, all while lifting your spirits.
