New “Waves of Wildflowers” Texas Bluebonnet Painting by Niki Gulley

25.5″ x 12.5″ textured oil painting

I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of the berms so indicative of the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, Waves of Wildflowers is loaded with texture, color and movement. Dramatic clouds set the backdrop while vertical curving rows of cobalt and crimson lead your eye to the house tucked into the distant foliage, welcoming you home. Arranging the bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush vertically are designed to lift your spirits and add joy to your home.

In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of our berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms slightly abstract plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.

“Visions of Wildflowers II” Palette Knife Bluebonnet Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

Just sold! In this Texas wildflower series, I wanted to capture the excitement and energy felt during a beautiful April day when the bluebonnets are painting the horizon in blue. Driving through the hill country in springtime, there is such an amazing explosion of color from the bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush, coreopsis and the plethora of wildflowers, that it fills your heart with joy and awe. Greece Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Day 4, Greece Art Trek: Afternoon Location – Oia, Santorini

Just Sold! The painters chose to set up their easels by the lookout point at the edge of town, with some painting the windmills and skyline to our left and I chose this sprawling view of the city on the right. With a far more complicated scene, we had to allow a full afternoon and evening to capture the view. After so much white and blue architecture, I loved how several of the buildings were painted oranges, yellows and pinks contrasting agains the stark alabaster.

That evening we put down our brushes and let the photographers work on capturing the beautiful sunset, while we sat back and enjoyed the amazing view!

Painting this piece on location, I was hoping you could feel the ocean tides lapping on the shore and hear the rhythmic, soothing sounds of the waves cresting and falling like I was experiencing while painting it. Whenever I visit the seashore I always feel rejuvenated, and I hope I’ve translated that onto the canvas for you to experience it, too.

“45mph” Winter Landscape Palette Knife Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

Just sold! On one of our first trips together, my husband and I drove to Colorado to capture the fall foliage, and were greeted by one of the earliest snowfalls on record. While not the golden aspen glory we expected, the pristine white of that first dusting was beautiful. I loved this scenic overlook as we rounded the corner, and as you can see there was no shoulder to pull over on to capture the scene. So quickly grabbing my camera, I snapped away as we whizzed past. In this shot, I particularly liked a sliver of the school-bus-yellow 45mph sign contrasting against the vivid azure sky and framing the right side of the composition to lead your eye back into the breathtaking drive.
