“Nature’s Brushstrokes II” Abstract Wildflower Painting by Niki Gulley

In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of spring wildflowers flowing along grassy rises and falls of gently rolling hills. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms and their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.

In this painting, I wanted to render Texas bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush very abstractly. Focusing on the patterns of color that those vibrant reds and cobalt blues form, allows you to feel the excitement of peering into a huge field of wildflower glory. Mysterious light tries to break through the distant foliage and begin to illuminate the blossoms, beckoning you to explore what’s beyond.

Just Sold through The Good Art Company Gallery! A few months ago, one of my doctors suggested I try meditation. Not only do I think it’s helping with the illnesses, but as a bonus, painting ideas will appear in my head as I’m meditating. So here are some of the new pieces that are flowing out of me. You’ll see they’re a twist on reality with nature abstracted through color, strokes and texture. I hope they lift you up and create a sense of mystery, leaving interpretation up to your imagination.

I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. I liked how these rows of poppies and rolling grasses created a gentle harmony, inviting you to wander into the distance, getting lost in the moment. With an aura of mystery, late day light touches the tops of the grasses and hills with glimmers of hope.

Textured Hill Country Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

I started this piece on location along the Willow City Loop in Fredericksburg, TX and these interesting red rocks were calling my name! Combine their beautiful hues and shapes along with the dreamy morning light, and I thought this composition would make a perfect painting. I love bluebonnets but there were only two or three tiny ones at my feet, so I decided to use them as a guide and multiply them. That way I could paint the scene the way it would look in another two weeks. Lastly, including the road on the left reminds you to slow down and enjoy the journey.
