“Ready for Harvest” Vineyard Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley
Just Sold through Seaside Gallery! We visited Tuscany at the end of summer and were surrounded by grapevines everywhere we went, with the gorgeous, plump purple grapes ready to harvest at any moment. I loved the vibrant vines in the foreground framing the rolling hills dotted with more grapevines, olive trees, and plowed grain fields in the distance. Setting up my easel across from this vineyard, I created this textured oil painting with palette knife and a lot of paint. I arranged the planted vines to lead your eye back to the Tuscan villa and then to the hill town perched above the valley. Morning light cast deep purple shadows on the ground and caused the leaves and soil to glow. As a treat when I finished, we enjoyed a picnic of salami, proscuitto, pecorino and of course, vino. Yum!

“Tuscan Vista” Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

New “Ruby Road” Palette Knife Poppy Painting by Niki Gulley
I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. Inspired by our travels to Italy, cypress trees rise out of the vast open landscape signaling that you have arrived in Tuscany! Perched on a hilltop with its long curving driveway, this villa is set against the perfect backdrop for a romantic escape. Rows of ruby blooms draw your eye back to the rolling hills and beautiful billowing clouds. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this canvas is loaded with movement, color and dimension.

New “Blanket of Crimson” Tuscany Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley
I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. So when my husband and I came across this gorgeous ruby blanket in Tuscany we had to stop and capture the moment. I liked how the rows of poppies and rolling hills created a gentle harmony leading you to the quintessential stone farmhouse in the distance. I hope you, too, can feel the joy of a perfect spring day in Tuscany!
“Chasing Dragons” Oil Painting from Slovenia by Niki Gulley
Slovenia and Croatia Art Trek – Day 1
Led by Niki Gulley and Scott Williams
Just Sold! This summer, my husband, Scott Williams, and I led an Art Trek to Slovenia and Croatia where we taught photography, painting and showed the rest of our group who weren’t painting or photographing some of the highlights in those countries. It was an amazing trip, and everyone said it was probably two of their favorite countries they’d ever visited!
On our first day, we arrived in Ljubljana, the capitol of Slovenia. The city is lined with dragons everywhere since they are the symbol for the city and they even have a Dragonolgy course through the local college! We chose to paint their famous Dragon Bridge while the photographers shot and explored the city. Above is one of the bronze creatures that greet you as you’re crossing the bridge.
That afternoon we gave everyone free time to explore the castle, the beautiful city streets and architecture, shop, etc. and that evening we gathered for an amazing meal at their Michelin rated restaurant. A perfect ending to a wonderful day!
Nighttime in St. Mark’s Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley
Venice is one of the most romantic cities I’ve visited, and at night it is especially dreamy, quieting down from the tourist traffic and filled with sparkle and energy. In St. Mark’s Square, you can hear the sounds of live music while couples dine al fresco or stroll through the dimly lit open corridors. Gorgeous marble tile floors line the walkways while golden arches frame the iconic views. I wanted to capture that magical feeling and transport you back to fond memories of your Venetian vacation.
