“Fracturing Reality” Textured Abstract Aspen Painting by Niki Gulley

“Fracturing Reality” ©2023 Niki Gulley

SOLD • 30” x 40” textured mixed media painting on canvas

Just sold! Abstract realism – the synthesis of abstract and realistic painting. Borrowing abstract influences, such as focusing on color, line, shape and rhythm without a concrete, physical object and combining those concepts with depicting something from reality. When you marry these two genres, you get a new style of art that aims to illicit the emotions behind the subject.

In “Fracturing Reality,” I hope you feel rejuvenated as you gaze into nature’s wonders and escape into your dreams.

“Reclining Thoughts” ©2022 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 40″ x 30” textured oil painting on wrap around canvas
Just Sold! In this painting, I wanted you to you to experience the joy of looking up into the treetops – just like you did when you were a kid. Lying on the ground, not a care in the world, you gaze in wonderment as the clouds drift by. Choosing warm yellows, reds and greens and utilizing thick chunky staccato strokes add to that childlike whimsy and I hope you are transported back to a happy, carefree time and place.

Texas Artist Niki Gulley Paints Vibrant Poppy Fields of Tuscany

“Blossoming Joy III” ©2023 Niki Gulley

24″ x 12″ textured mixed media on canvas

Inspired from a wonderful trip to Tuscany, I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of joy and energy. Using broken impressionistic strokes in surprising hues, causes the landscape to dance and flow. Set beneath a vivid sky on a beautiful day in springtime with the poppies in full bloom, I hope all of your cares drift away and your spirit is lifted while gazing into this cheerful scene.

New “Gondola Sunrise II” by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

“Gondola Sunrise II,” Venice ©2023 Niki Gulley
9″ x 12″ textured acrylic painting on canvas panel

Venice Carnivalé Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams – Day 3

For this painting, I actually got up long before sunrise! A feat in itself! But, during Carnival in Venice it gets so crowded that I love the mornings before the crowds descend. This morning, it was just me and about 100 costumes and photographers, which is quite quiet during the celebration.

So, I set up my easel along the lagoon off of St. Mark’s Square while it was still dark but had some ambient light from the street lamps. I squeezed out my paints by memory and began sketching the scene. By that point, first light broke in the most inspiring, brilliant colors. It was beautiful and so worth the effort! Listening to the sounds of the waves lapping against the shore and gondolas riding their rhythm was truly magical. Only in Venice!

Then, I painted as quickly as I could, and luckily was treated to another round of glorious color when the sun finally rose. I hope you, too, can enjoy the beauty of this enchanting city.

“Gondola Ride” Oil Painting by Palette Knife Painter Niki Gulley

“Gondola Ride,” Venice ©2019 Niki Gulley

SOLD • 12″ x 9″ oil painting

Just Sold! I painted this piece on location during our Art Trek we taught in Venice while their infamous Carnival celebration was taking place. Since St. Mark’s Square can get overrun with tourists, we chose to set up our easels along a side street to enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the city. I love the magical light that comes flooding in through the canals and is so distinctive of Venice. The stone bridge with its iron railing sets a perfect backdrop to the gondolier rowing his enchanted passengers through the romantic back canals.

Commissioned Quadriptych Palette Knife Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

 ©2022 Niki Gulley

SOLD • Four 28″ x 28″ canvases to form a 56″ x 56″ quadriptych • textured mixed media painting

This year I was honored to have my collectors reach out to me and ask me to create a special painting for them on commission. For several years they had been enjoying a 72″ quadriptych painting of mine. They loved how it brought them such joy and the feeling of being surrounded by the forest. But, when they decided to build a new home, my original painting was too large to fit over the fireplace in their great room. So, they decided to hang the first painting in another room and requested that I paint this new one smaller and to change the scene so that it would reflect the fall trees that grow around their new house. Voila! I hope you, too, can experience the joy of being surrounded by nature’s beauty in this autumn kaleidoscope of colors.

“Sunrise in St. Mark’s Square” Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Sunrise in St. Mark’s Square” Venice ©2022 Niki Gulley

12″ x 16″ textured oil painting

I painted this piece on location in Venice during our Art Trek we taught in Venice while their infamous Carnival celebration was taking place. Since St. Mark’s Square can get overrun with tourists, we chose to get up with sunrise to enjoy the beauty of the city and the peacefulness of those early morning hours. I love the magical light that comes flooding in from the lagoon and is so distinctive of Venice. Fortunately, I got set up in time to capture the glow from the gas lamps, too, before they went out as daylight approached, adding to the mysterious quality of the plaza. Against a backdrop of the Doge’s Palace, a few people stroll across the square and signal the energy of the day that is to come.
