A rose is a rose, is a rose. Not in my backyard – they are what I look at first thing in the morning as I am waiting on my coffee. I love to look out the windows to see if I have any new blooms and what color they are today. That way I can get an idea of what I want to paint that day.

From our travels, I have become fascinated with the textures, hues and extreme variety we encounter in different terrains. This lone tree thriving in such a rocky, steep environment serves as a testament to the power and mystery found in nature.

Royal Rows ©2021 Niki Gulley
20” x 30” textured mixed media on canvas
Inspired by a trip to Provence, these lavender fields were gorgeous and stretched as far as the eye could see! I wanted to focus on the perfectly planted purple rows, contrasted against the vibrant yellow sunflowers in the distance. I love how those colors pop next to each other. Fluffy clouds drift by in diagonal patterns that mimic the lavender aisles and create a harmony throughout the scene. Perspective lines converge, leading you to this joyful spot and I hope you can smell the amazing aromas and feel your spirits lifted while gazing into this scene.
