New “Nature’s Ascent” Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Nature’s Ascent” ©2016 Niki Gulley
12″ x 16″ textured oil painting

I created “Nature’s Ascent” on another beautiful day this fall at one of my favorite painting spots near our home. I was attracted to the colorful dappled light raking across these steps and hillside, beckoning you to ascend. Meanwhile this majestic sycamore stands tall in its fall glory, also inviting you into the distance to discover what’s beyond. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this landscape is filled with color, movement and energy!

New Autumn Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Exploring the Woods II” ©2016 Niki Gulley
12″ x 18″ textured oil painting

I created “Exploring the Woods II” on another beautiful day this fall at one of my favorite painting spots near our home. The kaleidoscope of autumn colors was ablaze, and I was attracted to the dappled light sneaking through small gaps in the forested canopy, illuminating the winding path and brilliant grasses below. Playing off of the diagonal shadows on the ground and the zig zag arrangement of the trunks, I feel like the patterns create a kind of rhythm, adding to the sounds in the woods in this canvas. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this landscape is filled with color, movement and energy!

I painted “Exploring the Woods” on a beautiful fall day at one of my favorite spots near our home. The brilliant gold and tangerine leaves were glowing from the sun backlighting them, and the gnarly tree trunks were forming an intricate web that I just had to capture. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this landscape is filled with color, movement and energy!

New “Texas Glory” Textured Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

“Texas Glory”  ©2015 Niki Gulley
30″ x 48″ textured mixed media on wrap around canvas

Inspired by a trip to the Texas Hill Country, we were greeted by this gorgeous view of the rolling landscape and wildflowers in full bloom. Then, to top it off the sun was setting in the distance casting its golden glow and backlighting the wildflowers. I had to capture the magical moment, enhancing the kaleidoscope of colors in the sky and along the ground. Arranging clouds, the road and rows of bluebonnets in rhythmic sweeping shapes create a harmonious scene that flows with light, texture and color,.
