“Olive Grove” from Tuscany by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Olive Grove,” Tuscany ©2024 Niki Gulley
10″ x 20″ textured oil painting

During our Tuscany Foodie Trek, we headed to the wine town of Montalcino to sample some of Italy’s world famous Brunello. On our way, we stopped at this beautiful convent with massive ancient olive trees growing on the grounds. In the distance, you can see the nearby hill town with vineyards and more olive groves lining the hillside. I wanted to capture the beauty of those regal olive trees on a beautiful sun-filled day in Tuscany.

“Gardening Joy” Rose Painting by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

“Gardening Joy” ©2024 Niki Gulley
20″ x 10″ Textured Mixed Media on Canvas

As my garden kept evolving this spring, I was treated every day to a new blossoming surprise! Today I was greeted by the most gorgeous roses I’ve seen since I planted them 7 years ago. So, of course I had to go out and capture those beauties before they disappeared.

Wanting to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light, I painted the blooms large to add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, multi-colored roses dance along the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.

Textured Abstract Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Cobalt Cascade” ©2024 Niki Gulley

30″ x 30″ textured mixed media painting on 1.5″ gallery wrap canvas with the scene continuing around the edges

I wanted this painting to be about the joy I feel in springtime when Texas wildflowers are bursting forth, creating their symphony of colors. Magical light flows around them casting its warm glow and hope for the upcoming day. As the sun illuminates the horizon, bluebonnets and a kaleidoscope of blooms sparkle and dance across the canvas. I hope “Cobalt Cascade” fills your heart with the power of nature to lift your spirits, energize your soul and bathe you in peace.

“Colors of Colmar” Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Colors of Colmar” ©2024 Niki Gulley
12″ x 12″ textured acrylic painting on canvas panel

Painted on location in the Alsatian town of Colmar, France,  the scenery was inspiring everywhere you looked. Straight out of a postcard, practically every view is storybook picture perfect. Today I set up my easel amongst the Russian sage and Black-eyed Susans to capture their joy and energy with a sliver of the cross-timbered architecture in the distance to set the stage.  I hope you are transported to this beautiful, magical place!

New Cheerful Rose Painting Series by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

©2024 Niki Gulley
16″ x 16″ Textured Acrylic on Canvas • Framed in espresso

What a beautiful surprise to have these roses blooming in my garden this winter! Of course the next night it was supposed to freeze and I couldn’t let these beauties go to waste. After cutting and assembling them in a vase, I just kept staring at them as they were bringing so much color and joy to the grey day. Despite several projects on my plate, I had to take a break and capture these rosy fleeting blooms. May they bring some vibrancy to your winter days, too.

These paintings look great hung alone or in a grouping.

I am in love with my rose bush in my backyard! Each bloom has so many colors and every blossom is slightly different. From pink to red to peach to yellow, they are so beautiful to watch. Today I had to go out in my backyard, set up my easel and capture their joy from life. I hope they lift your spirits, too!

Tuscany Foodie Trek Sadly Concludes with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

20″ x 10″ textured acrylic painting by Niki Gulley

Day 7, Pienza:  TUSCANY FOODIE TREK

Led by Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

On the last day of our Tuscany Foodie Trek, we explored nearby Pienza to enjoy its picturesque alleyways and amazing views of the valleys below. Having been home to Pope Pius II, the town is filled with interesting historical sites, great shopping, delicious lunch spots and plenty of inspirational scenery to paint. From one of the overlooks, I chose this beautiful vineyard perched above the rolling hills for my subject. Diagonally planted grapevines lead your eye to the quintessential Tuscan farmhouse, surrounded by cypress and jaw-dropping views. May this one transport you to this magical place!

We capped the night off with an amazing Michelin dinner surrounded by new friends and drifted off to sleep, full, happy and at peace.

Making pasta memories!

Visiting Vineyards and Wine Tasting with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Tuscany Foodie Trek – Led by Niki Gulley and Scott Williams
Day 4: Wine Tasting in Montalcino

Just sold! Today we visited the nearby hill town of Montalcino and sampled their famous Brunello wines. The vino was beyond delicious and the spread of homemade bruschetta and local meats and cheeses were paired perfectly. Stopping off along the way, we toured an ancient Monastery that feels so spiritual in its divine simplicity that everyone found it a highlight of the trip.

In the above painting you can see this beautiful abbey in the distance, surrounded by grapevines, olive groves and cypress trees. Signs of fall appear as the colorful vines turn vibrant shades of crimson. Setting up my easel across from this vineyard, I began recreating the soft light that would break through the clouds and illuminate various hilltops and plantings. I arranged the vines to lead your eye back to the church and the beautiful countryside. I hope you can taste the delicious wine and escape to Tuscany with us!
