“Field of Dreams” Large Triptych Sunflower Painting by Niki Gulley

Field of Dreams is inspired from the beautiful sunflower fields we visited in Provence, France. The flowers seemed to stretch forever and the color explosion was out of this world! Back in my studio, I worked from a combination of photos, on-site sketches and memories. Painting the sunflowers full-sized in the foreground helps to bring them to life and hopefully transport you to this happy location. Including surprising pops of vivid reds and purples keeps your eye moving throughout the scene, seeing new things each time you look at it, and adds to the joyful feeling.

“Blossoming Dreams II” Abstract Bluebonnet Painting by Niki Gulley

I wanted to show Texas’ spring landscape in a completely different way. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the bluebonnets and wildflowers along with their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way. With an aura of mystery, late day light touches the tops of the grasses and hills with glimmers of hope.

The vague suggestion of bluebonnets and colorful wildflowers peek through the dancing golden tangle, leaving the landscape loose and free so that your imagination can tell its story. I painted “Spring Forward” while visiting the Texas Hill Country. The explosion of color along roadsides was incredible! This morning the sun kept peeking in and out of the clouds, creating a soft glow to everything it touched. I wanted to capture that magical light illuminating your journey lined by bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of springtime with the wildflowers abloom!

“Sunshine on My Mind” New Sunflower Painting by Niki Gulley

Just Sold! I saw these cheerful sunflowers planted in my neighborhood every time I got in my car to ran errands and they were so bright and colorful, I just had to paint them! So this week, I dragged my body out of bed at 5 a.m. to capture them at sunrise before our Texas heat reached 100 degrees. While not normally an early riser, it was well worth it to bask in their glory while I was painting. I hope you, too, can enjoy their sunshine and start your day with a smile.

I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. I liked how these rows of poppies and rolling grasses created a gentle harmony, inviting you to wander into the distance, getting lost in the moment. Full of color and hope, may my “Symphony in Springtime” transport you to a happy serene place.

Painting and Photographing Castles with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Since I hand’t had my fill of castles yet, I painted yet another majestic fortress in Tuscany. Starting in the afternoon and continuing until it was almost too dark to see any longer, I captured the scene on canvas while Scott photographed the view as the sun was setting. I love the long winding cypress road inviting you to visit. Such a magical evening!

Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley Painting Castles in Tuscany

Here is one last rose garden from Tuscany. I couldn’t resist, and I just had to create at least one piece with this incredible castle in it. Unfortunately, I ran out of time to complete it on location, but I’ll continue refining it at home and above you can see my progress. In this painting, I wanted to accentuate these gorgeous yellow roses as they were sharing their beauty and bringing joy to the setting. Such an inspiring place!

Tuscan Rose Garden Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

Once we finished leading our Tuscany Foodie Trek, Scott and I extended our adventure since we absolutely love the area so much. What a delight as we checked into our B and B to discover that the grounds were surrounded by rose gardens. WOW! With such a plethora of beautiful blooms, it was really hard to narrow down what to paint. Finally I landed on these crimson beauties with a peak at the Tuscan villa in the distance. And, of course I adore the cypress trees so indicative of Tuscany so I had to include them in the background. Filled with joy and color, I hope you are transported to this serene escape.
