24″ x 12″ textured mixed media painting on 1.5″ wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

This idyllic setting just screamed Texas to me and I had to paint it. The quintessential windmill spins in the distance, signaling a change in seasons as spring leaps forward. Colorful bluebonnets fill the landscape, inviting you to wander through wildflower fields, noble oaks and onto hilltops ahead, sure to treat your journey with amazing views of the Texas Hill Country.

16″ x 20″ textured mixed media painting on canvas panel

I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of the berms so indicative of the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, Spring Forward II  is loaded with texture, color and movement. Curving rows of cobalt with flecks of Indian Paintbrush and various wildflowers lead your eye to the house tucked into the distant foliage, welcoming you home to this gorgeous setting.

On our drive through the Hill Country recently, I was drawn to this one lone tree rising above the horizon.  Waves of bluebonnets lead your eye into the distance towards that late light illuminating the wildflower filled hill and oak tree. Adding pops of color where the rainbow of wildflowers danced in between the blue also keeps your focus moving from foreground to background. I hope you can feel the joy and energy of springtime in Texas!

I was painting bluebonnets just outside of Llano, TX and we ran into a guy that invited us up to his property overlooking the valley. So this is the gorgeous view that I painted from atop Scopwick ranch. And, they bought it as soon as I was finished!

“Capturing the Sun” Cheerful Sunflower Painting by Niki Gulley

“Capturing the Sun” © 2020 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 18″ x 24″ textured oil painting

Just sold through The Statton Gallery! This sunflower field that I visited in the middle of the pandemic was GORGEOUS. It felt like it stretched for miles. Bright, happy faces sharing their smiles with us and lifting our spirits. My heart literally swelled and I had to capture all of that joy on canvas.  Utilizing vivid, uplifting hues, thick paint and bold, loose strokes add to the happy, carefree feeling of the moment and I hope you are transported there with me.
