“Heightened Awareness” textured aspen painting

“Heightened Awareness” ©2012 Niki Gulley
48” x 36” textured oil on canvas

In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. Choosing vibrant, cheerful yellows contrasted against a crystal blue sky and arranging the aspens in a circular pattern heightened by thick, curving paint strokes, both add to that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery.

This painting, along with several more of Gulley’s textured aspen and birch tree paintings are hanging at the Good Art Company in Fredericksburg, TX. Visit goodartcompany.com/gac/ for more details.

“Paved by Sunlight” – New aspen painting

“Paved by Sunlight” ©2012 Niki Gulley
30″ x 40″ textured oil on canvas
I wanted you to feel the joy and peacefulness of walking through an aspen forest on a beautiful summer day in Colorado. With soft light illuminating the walkway and the distance sparkling in golden light, the only sounds to be heard are a slight breeze flickering the leaves overhead and the serenity of being immersed in nature. What lies ahead? The mysterious glow from beyond beckons you forward.
E-mail Niki Gulley for more information on her textured aspen and birch oil paintings.

Last day for Two Woman Show, “Opposites Attract,” at Jaycee Center for the Arts

“Fire and Gold” ©2012 Niki Gulley
oil on canvas • 36″ x 48″

I love the first signs of fall – the crisp feel in the air, the crunching of leaves underfoot, the beautiful autumn colors, and being totally immersed in nature in the middle of a forest without a care in the world. In Fire and Gold I wanted to recreate that joyful feeling, choosing warm reds and yellows of autumn and using energetic strokes with my paint to heighten that mood. Building up thin transparent layers of oil paint also add to a certain glow and magic in the final piece.

To see “Fire and Gold” in person, stop by the Jaycee Center for the Arts in Irving, TX for this two woman show featuring the paintings of Niki Gulley and Elizabeth Padgett. Exhibit ends this Thursday, Feb. 23rd. 1975 Puritan Dr. between Story Rd. and MacArthur in Irving, TX.

New Textured Aspen Tree painting

“Coming Together” ©2011 Niki Gulley
40” x 30” textured oil on canvas

In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. Choosing calming greens against a lavender-blue peaceful sky and arranging the two main aspens so that they meet in the middle, suggests a feeling of togetherness. While organizing the outlying trees in a circular pattern and using thick, curving, bold orange brushstrokes, creates a joyful, playful mood.

New Textured Birch Oil Painting

“Colorful Transformation” ©2011 by Niki Gulley
textured oil painting • 36″ x 48″

Rather than create an exact replica of the forest, I wanted to focus on brilliant color and simple shapes to see if I could communicate the excitement I feel when surrounded by nature. Using energetic diagonal strokes and thick, textured paint, I hope you get a sense of the motion in the leaves and the power of nature to invigorate your spirit. I just love how this piece captured that essence!

New Aspen Tree oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Ivory Refrain” ©2011 Niki Gulley
24” x 30” textured oil on canvas

Scrolling bark peels back like white washed parchment revealing secrets in the deeply textured wood below. A painting of grace and beauty, it’s verticality offset by embracing branches wound round as a sheltering arm. Each stroke is crisp, vivid, defined by thick textured oil, rich colors strike a reververberating chord – purple and the compliment of gold create a visual vibration that resonates in an optical song.
