Just Sold! My husband and I both LOVE waterfalls, which turned out to be one of our favorite things about Iceland – there was a stunning waterfall everywhere we went. Today I set up my easel to capture the energy and flow of the cascades while showing a hint of the mountainous scenery surrounding the landscape. Creating strokes in diagonal sweeping shapes to enhance that feeling of movement and rhythm, I hope you, too, can hear the flowing water’s music and feel the gentle spray from its mist.

New “Frozen Islands” Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley
One of the highlights of our Iceland trip was to visit the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Completely otherworldly, large chunks of blue ice break and float along the water’s surface while the massive glacier looms in the distance. My favorite color being aqua, I had to capture all of the gorgeous blues in the water and the ice. While a little overcast, the sun was able to peak through the clouds and create a dreamlike sunset casting a golden tint across the lagoon. A magical moment!

“Autumn Concerto II” by Niki Gulley Available at Seaside Gallery
I painted these colorful birch trees on location with the fall hues emerging in all of their glory. I loved this grove of trunks that twisted and turned, slicing bright white through the tangle of autumn leaves. Painted over several mornings, the air was crisp but the sun made for beautiful painting conditions that illuminated the subject and warmed the air. I hope you, too, can feel the thrill of being surrounded by nature on a perfect fall day.
Autumn Concerto II along with several of my textured contemporary impressionistic oil painting are available through Seaside Gallery in Pismo Beach, CA. To contact them about this painting, please follow the link below.
New “Aspiring Dreams” Fall Foliage Treetops by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley
Just sold! Painted on location, I was drawn to the striking reds and oranges of the maple treetops contrasted against the vivid turquoise blue sky. There was so much energy in the colors and the breeze blowing through the leaves, that I had to capture that feeling. Dappled light rakes across the tree trunks and illuminates flickering leaves as they catch the sunlight. Using diagonal strokes and a lot of paint with my palette knife, this piece is filled with joy, color and movement.
Visiting the Alhambra Palace with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams
On the third day of our Spain Art Trek, we visited the Alhambra palace, one of the world’s true architectural marvels and the seat of power from Moorish to Christian rule, dating back to the 14th century. This stunning fortress is the culmination of Moorish design and has some of the best maintained late-Medieval gardens. The Generalife grounds were so gorgeous, bursting with cascading roses and dramatically lit pathways that we set up our easels there to paint while the photographers and tourists toured more of the grounds. Later that day, we met for lunch and continued our tour of the Alcazar.
