Palette Knife Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Texas Pride II” ©2015 Niki Gulley
20″ x 30″ textured oil painting on canvas

I painted these Texas bluebonnets and with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture. The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. In this wildflower series, I’ve painted the scene around the edges of the canvas on 1 and 1/2″ deep stretcher bars so that the painting can be hung without a frame for a contemporary look. Or, I also have a beautiful espresso floater frame where you can still see the painted edges of the canvas if you prefer framed artwork.

The original oil painting of “Texas Pride II” is sold, but canvas prints are available. Please e-mail [email protected] for pricing and ordering information.

New “Spring’s Glory,” Texas Hill Country oil painting by Niki Gulley

Spring’s Glory,” Texas Hill Country ©2016 Niki Gulley
36” x 60” textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas

“Spring’s Glory” was inspired by a trip to the Texas Hill Country. The spring conditions were perfect, and the bluebonnets were amazing! While we were near Fredericksburg, we took a scenic drive along the Willow City Look and as we approached the top of a hill about half way around, we were greeted by this gorgeous view of the rolling hills and bluebonnets in full bloom. Then, to top it off the sun was setting in the distance casting its golden glow and backlighting the wildflowers. I had to capture the magical moment, enhancing the kaleidoscope of colors in the sky and along the ground. Arranging clouds, the road and rows of bluebonnets in rhythmic sweeping shapes to create a harmonious landscape that flows with light, texture and color, and suggest a feeling of optimism about what’s to come.

“Hill Country Retreat” Texas Bluebonnet Painting by Niki Gulley

“Hill Country Retreat” ©2016 Niki Gulley
9″ x 12″ textured oil painting

I painted these Texas bluebonnets at a plein air painting workshop I was leading in Fredericksburg, TX. I loved the pop of red on the flag flying off this cabin’s back porch in contrast to the vibrant cobalt bluebonnets. Working with palette knife and thick oil paint, this Texas landscape is loaded with texture, color and movement!

New “What Dreams Are Made Of” Quadriptych Palette Knife Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

“What Dreams Are Made Of” ©2016 by Niki Gulley
Four 36″ x 36″ canvases to form a 72″ x 72″ quadriptych • textured oil painting

In this painting, I wanted you to feel like a little kid again – laying on the ground and staring up into the treetops without a care in the world. I hope you experience the joy of being surrounded by nature and the beauty in this autumn kaleidoscope of colors.

Canvas Prints now Available:  Four 24″ x 24″ canvases are stretched on 3/4 inch stretcher bars with the image continuing around the edges to form a 48″ x 48″ quadriptych that does not need to be framed, just like the original . I have also added thick paint in some of the leaves and trunks to add even more texture and making each print one of a kind. Finally, I have coated the canvases with a UV varnish to protect the paintings. The canvases can be hung right up next to each other or spread apart by a few inches to come out to a maximum of 53″ x 53″. I can also make other sizes or stretch What Dreams Are Made Of on deep 1 and 1/2 inch stretcher bars for an additional fee. Please contact me at Niki Gulley for more information on the original painting or canvas prints.

Just Sold – “Sun Salutations” by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Sun Salutations” ©2016 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 30″ x 48″ textured mixed media painting on wrap around canvas

Just Sold! Sun Salutations is inspired from one of the amazing locations we take our students to on our Provence Art Trek. We actually set up our easels in this gorgeous lavender and sunflower field, where the flowers seem to stretch forever and the color and aroma explosion are out of this world! Back in my studio, I worked from a combination of photos, on-site sketches and memories. Painting the sunflowers full-sized in the foreground helps to bring them to life and hopefully transport you to this beautiful location. Contrasting the complimentary colored lavender field in the distance draws your eye to the focal point, while repeating surprising pops of vivid color keeps your eye moving throughout the scene and adds to the joyful feeling.

If you’d like more information or a brochure on one of our upcoming Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshops, please let me know. This year’s upcoming Art Trek to Spain is full, but we are taking reservations for the following year to Tuscany, England and Ireland.

New “Popping Color II” Palette Knife Poppy Painting by Niki Gulley

“Popping Color II” ©2016 Niki Gulley
24″ x 12″ textured oil painting

I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. Set beneath a colorful sky on a beautiful day in springtime with the poppies and wildflowers in full bloom, I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.

In this vertical wildflower series, I’ve framed the paintings in espresso floater frames so that you can still see the textured oil paint continuing around the edges of the canvas. These poppies look great hung alone or in a grouping, too!

“Vertical Aromas” Palette Knife Lavender Field Painting by Niki Gulley

“Vertical Aromas” ©2016 Niki Gulley
24″ x 12″ textured mixed media painting on wrap around canvas

The lavender fields in Provence are incredible – perfectly manicured rows and rows of an explosion of violet as far as the eye can see. I wanted to try something different in this painting, arranging the purple waves vertically to draw your eye up to the stone farmhouse in the distance. Meanwhile wispy clouds drift by and perspective lines all converge, leading you to this joyful, peaceful spot. I hope you can smell the amazing aromas and  feel your spirits lifted while gazing into this scene!
